As Delawareans prepare to ring in the New Year, state officials are reminding residents to plan ahead for a safe ride home. The Sober Rides program is once again offering free transportation options on New Year’s Eve to help reduce impaired driving and keep roadways safe during one of the busiest nights of the year.
Through the program, eligible participants can receive a $20 ride voucher for either Lyft or Uber. Vouchers can be claimed online at MySoberRides.com and may be used anytime between 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, and 3 a.m. on Thursday, January 1.
The initiative is part of Delaware’s ongoing impaired-driving prevention efforts and is designed to give residents a reliable alternative to getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or other impairing substances. New Year’s Eve is historically one of the most dangerous nights of the year for alcohol-related crashes, making programs like Sober Rides a critical public safety resource.
State officials encourage residents to secure their voucher early and include transportation plans as part of their New Year’s Eve celebrations. The program is open while vouchers last, and availability may be limited.
The Sober Rides initiative aligns with Delaware’s broader traffic safety campaign, Arrive Alive Delaware, which focuses on reducing fatalities and serious injuries on state roadways through education, enforcement, and prevention strategies.
